Computer Tapes Containing Racial and Demographic Tabulations of Poverty Statistics Extracted from the 1960 Census ("Putnam File" and "Putnam Aggregate File"), (a series). 1965.

These tabulations, extracted from the 1960 census, were prepared for OEO by the Bureau of the Census to identify the extent and patterns of poverty at the State and county/city levels. Israel Putnam, of the Office of Operations, directed the project. The first subseries, the "Putnam File," focuses on poverty from the individual and family standpoint and analyzes income data in terms of age, sex, race (white and nonwhite only), and family size and status. The second subseries, the "Putnam Aggregate Print File," focuses on poverty from a geographic and residential standpoint and analyzes all urban, rural, nonfarm, and farm residences in terms of the number of persons and families, race (white and nonwhite only), income and male/female head of family. A reference set of extracted summary tables (122 pages for each State) is available. County and State poverty statistics extracted from the 1970 census and the Account File for Approved CAP grants are related to this series through the standard geographic references (State, count, and city codes).
